About Us

Who We Are

The Saving Huey Foundation is a small 501c3, non-profit organization located in Southern California. The organization was founded by Tracy Lystra and her family after a good samaritan discovered Huey wandering the foothills of Moreno Valley on a cold, rainy night in 2014. This battered and bruised pup was believed to have been used as a bait dog. Much to everyone’s surprise, including the vet, Huey defied the odds and survived his injuries. Huey lived happily with the Lystra’s until his passing on May 31, 2017.

Our Beliefs, We are committed to

  • Develop educational programs, including shelter reading programs, school outreach and community events.
What we do

Our Services

Rescuing Pets

We take on severely abused/disabled animals and offer them the best medical that money can buy, and a second chance here at Huey’s Second Chance Ranch.

Finding Pets a Home

Because our dogs have special needs, we work hard to find exceptional homes for our rescues that can provide the love and care they need to live fulfilling lives.

Bringing Awareness & Education

Saving Huey Foundation is committed to bringing awareness to and exposing the brutality of dog fighting and other forms of animal abuse.

Huey's Heroes Reading Program

Huey’s Heroes Reading Program was designed to help readers of all ages improve their reading skills, while sharing those skills with animals in a shelter.
What Drives Us

Our Mission To Finish What We Started

Huey was not only an amazing dog, he was my best friend. From the life of bait dog, to a life of inspiration, Huey lived it all and he lived it well.

I could never have asked for a better dog, companion or friend. This December 26th, Huey would have been with me for 5 years. Next May 31st, Huey will be gone for 3 years. Life isn’t fair and no time together would have been enough, but I’m thankful for what we had.

Each decision I make for the Foundation revolves around Huey and what he and I built together. Thank you to those who loved Huey, shared and continue to share his story, and believe in my ability to finish what we started.
