I was notified of a puppy found on the streets of Tijuana. He had been so brutally beaten that his eye was hanging from its socket, his shoulder socket was completely destroyed from having been smashed repeatedly against the sidewalk, and his little cardboard box that he had sought safety in, was wet with his blood.
This is the story of Hercules, and how he found his way to Huey’s Second Chance Ranch. I loved this boy from the beginning and gave him a name strong enough to fit his fighting spirit. For the first couple of days, I wasn’t sure he would make it, as he wouldn’t eat, he was scared of everyone (rightfully so), and seemed to have totally shut down. Then one morning, I woke up to find Hercules wagging his tail at me, and the rest as they say, is history.
Hercules’ body continued to heal and although a leg amputation had been scheduled, Mother Nature had other plans and against the odds, he was able to keep his damaged front leg.
Hercules originally went to an amazing foster who had followed his story from day one and although they loved him very much, he was a bit much for their cat. So Hercules returned to us at the Ranch, and it just seemed right.
